December Updates from Sun People Dry Goods!

November 28, 2012

Join us this Saturday for our 2nd¬†Anniversary Celebration! Locally sourced treats and coffee along with a small, but meaningful discount of 2%–across the store. Also, be sure to shop on December 12th for “Shop for a Cause,” 10% of all sales that day will be going to support the work of the Martin Luther King Jr. Outreach Center.

The past two years have been quite a journey. For some reason, I was crazy enough to open a retail store during the Great Recession, but myself, along with my staff, are glad that I did! It has been so rewarding to meet and serve all of you these past two years. Your support means the world to us. It is heartening to know that so many folks in Spokane are working hard to live more consciously and more ecologically. We have loved hearing your stories of success and of the challenges you face as you make efforts to transition to a less resource intensive lifestyle. We are honored to help you make that transition and look forward to serving you on into the future!

As a retail store, we need to sell things, and while that enables us to live out our mission, our goal is not to help you acquire more stuff in your lives, but to help bring you the tools and know-how to live with less, be more self-sufficient, and yet, still build brighter, more creative, and richer lives. Anyone who has had the time to spend an afternoon making their own cheese or canning their own tomato sauce, knows what I mean. Time is precious and something we lack in our culture. By acquiring only the things we really need, it potentially frees up time. Instead of working so hard for the things we don’t need, by living more simply, we just might end up with more time for ourselves, our family, and our friends. For me, this is what the holidays are truly about.

Living well is connection. Connection to place, to family and to friends. My mantra for the coming year is, “Enough to Live Well.” It is my hope that Sun People provides the tools for you to live well this coming year.

Happy Holidays!
